佐野文彦＋田中英行 二人展「Sakan/Ukan」
2023滋賀県栗東市にオープンした西口左官のショールームにて、杮落としとなる展覧会「Sakan / Ukan」を企画・開催しました。

本展では、ショールームの建築設計を手がけた建築家・現代美術家の佐野文彦と、企画初期からコンセプトデザインおよびプランニングを担ってきた現代美術家・田中英行の2名による作品を展示。 左官という技術領域と、建築・アートの実践を交差させることで、「土」と「壁」という素材が持つ造形的・空間的な可能性に光を当てました。 西口左官は、商業施設や住宅など、多様な現場で熟練の鏝（こて）仕事を通じて質の高い左官仕上げを行ってきた職人集団です。 今回のショールームでは、その蓄積された職人技と知見をベースに、建築家、アーティスト、デザイナーなど多様なクリエイターとの共創を通じて、左官表現の新たな地平を拓く場として構想されました。

Two-Person Exhibition “Sakan / Ukan” (2023)

In 2023, we curated and presented Sakan / Ukan, the inaugural exhibition marking the opening of the Nishiguchi Sakan showroom in Ritto City, Shiga Prefecture.

This exhibition featured works by architect and contemporary artist Fumihiko Sano, who designed the showroom building, and contemporary artist Eikoh Tanaka, who was responsible for the exhibition’s conceptual design and planning from its earliest stages.

By intersecting the technical domain of traditional plastering (sakan) with architectural and artistic practices, the exhibition illuminated the sculptural and spatial potential of the materials earth and wall. Nishiguchi Sakan is a collective of highly skilled artisans who have long delivered exceptional plaster finishes across a wide range of projects, including commercial facilities and private residences, through masterful trowel work.

This new showroom was conceived as a platform to open new horizons for plaster expression, building upon the company’s accumulated craftsmanship and knowledge. Through collaboration with architects, artists, and designers from diverse fields, the space seeks to explore innovative possibilities for contemporary plasterwork.
